Chicago (6-11-1-0) rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the third period with goals from right wings Akim Aliu and Darren Haydar, but the clock ran out before they could knot the score.
Aliu got Chicago on the board, 3-1, with a short-handed goal 6:27 into the third period, when he broke down the ice with defenseman Noah Welch, sent a pass across to the blueliner and redirected his shot past Houston goaltender Matt Hackett.
The Wolves pulled within one goal, 3-2, with less than two minutes left in the last frame when Haydar dug the puck out of traffic in the crease and popped it in the goal.
Houston (8-6-1-2) opened scoring 8:26 into the first period when center Warren Peters roofed a shot from above the left faceoff circle past Chicago goaltender Peter Mannino, glove side.
The Aeros got on board again, 2-0, 12:06 into the opening frame when right wing Petr Kalus’ shot from the left faceoff circle beat Mannino, stick side.
Right wing Brock McBride bagged the eventual game-winner when he found the puck in the paint and slid it into the net to give the Aeros the 3-0 lead, 17:25 into the first frame.
Hackett (4-3-1) posted 30 saves for Houston.
Mannino (1-3-0) stopped 21 shots in the loss.
