How do the playoffs work in the American Hockey League?
The Calder Cup playoffs work in a seeded bracket system, with the teams being re-seeded following every round to determine home-ice advantage. To learn more about the details, check out TheAHL.com’s postseason primer.
What’s the Calder Cup?
The Calder Cup is the trophy that has been awarded to the championship AHL team since 1938. The Cup is named after Frank Calder, the National Hockey League’s first president (1917-1943).
How many teams make the playoffs?
In total 16 teams make the playoffs, eight from the Western Conference and eight from the Eastern Conference. Following the opening three rounds, the Calder Cup final pits the Western champion against the Eastern champion.

Have the Wolves ever won a championship?
The Wolves are four-time league champions, having won the Turner Cup twice (1998 & 2000) while in the International Hockey League and the Calder Cup twice (2002 & 2008) in the AHL.
